Good questions

Everything you're wondering.

The short version: show up, grab a beer, shape a tree, take it home. The longer version is below.

The night

What actually happens at a pop-up?
You grab a drink and settle in at the brewery. We hand you a young dwarf jade, a pot, soil, wire, and a road map. Over the evening you'll learn the fundamentals — styling, wiring, pruning, and care — while you shape your own tree with our guidance. At the end of the night, the tree goes home with you.
I've never touched a plant in my life. Will I keep up?
No green thumb? Perfect. The whole night is built for total beginners — no experience, no prep, no homework. The dwarf jade is famously forgiving, and we walk you through every step. If you can hold a beer, you can shape a tree.
How long does a workshop run?
About 2 hours — long enough to learn the fundamentals and shape your tree without ever feeling rushed.
What's included with my ticket?
Your own dwarf jade tree, a bonsai pot, soil, wiring materials, and hands-on guidance through the fundamentals of bonsai care. Everything you need for the night is on the table when you sit down — and the tree, pot, and materials go home with you. The tools stay with us, but you can pick up a set of your own at the event.
Are drinks included?
Usually drinks are not included in the ticket price, however some events will include your first round! Please check specific event details for more information.
Do I need to be 21?
You must be 21+ to drink. Check each event listing for that night's age details.

Booking & tickets

How do I get a ticket?
Pick your night on the Pop-Up Events page and hit Check out — $100 a seat, 25 seats a night, paid securely online. Your confirmation email is your ticket; just give your name at the door. Can't make either night? Join the email list and you'll hear first when new nights open.
Can I come with a group?
Absolutely — a table of friends is the best way to do it. Nights run small on purpose (roughly 10–30 guests), so everyone gets real guidance. Planning something bigger, or want the whole room? See private events.
I have a question you haven't answered.

Your tree

What tree do I get?
Portulacaria afra — the dwarf jade. It's the ideal beginner bonsai: hardy, forgiving, and nearly impossible to kill. Small enough to shape in an evening, tough enough to forgive a beginner, and capable of growing with you for decades.
What if I kill it?
The dwarf jade shrugs off most beginner mistakes. Start with the care guide (it's genuinely about five minutes a day), and if your tree ever looks unhappy, reach out. We'll help you figure out what it's asking for.
Will mine ever look like the big ones?
The stunning specimen trees you see took decades of patient care — that's the honest truth, and it's also the point. Your workshop tree is a real first step on that road: there are no shortcuts in bonsai, but there is a road map, and you'll leave with it.
